Change the Way You Think About Money

Today, I will be sharing four books about finances that helped transform my brain from a poor mindset to a rich mindset. These books were recommended to me by my mentor, Josh, and helped me understand money and investing way more than anything I was ever “taught” in school. I really wish I would have known about these books earlier in life because I would have been a lot better off than I am now. Why these books aren’t in the standard high school educational curriculum is beyond me. There are many great books on finance out there, but these books will provide a stable foundation to get you started.

The following books are very easy to follow and shouldn’t take long to finish. Hate reading? Me too! However, I found an easy way to read one book every month that is fail-proof. My “Pro Tip” for reading books is as follows: read ten pages a day, everyday, for thirty days, and you will get through a 300 page book every month. Pretty simple, huh? Try it out and see how easy it is!

Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki

This book is a great starting off point for anyone who wants to learn more about money. This book tells the story about how Robert Kiyosaki was introduced to money and investing from both sides of the table from his “poor” biological father and his best friend’s “rich” father. The book explains the difference between working for money and money working for you.

Cashflow Quadrant by Robert Kiyosaki

This book is part two of Rich Dad Poor Dad as it dives deeper into the theory of making money work for you. Cashflow Quadrant explains the four different quadrants of earning money and which side of the quadrant you should be on. This book will change the way you think about your career and being self-employed and inspire you to learn the rules of money that rich people use to build their wealth.

Your Money or Your Life by Vicki Robin

Hailed as a “book that could change your life,” Your Money or Your Life helps you understand and change your relationship with money. By following the steps Vicki Robin lays out for you, you can get out of debt quickly, spend money with intention, save money without relying on a strict budget, and create wealth. This is a great book for people who spend money blindly and wonder at the end of the month where it all went.

The Bitcoin Standard by Saifedean Ammous

I know what you’re thinking. Why do I want to learn about Bitcoin? Well, the answer to that question is beautifully illustrated in this book as it teaches you a history lesson on “fiat” money and how economic collapses were caused by our so-called appointed financial “experts.” After breaking down “unsound money,” the author takes you on a journey through Bitcoin’s past, present, and promising future. I have to say this book really opened up my eyes to the financial woes governments around the world have continued to put us through generation after generation. While I have not yet invested in cryptocurrency, I am in the process of doing so in order to diversify my financial portfolio even further.

Like I said before, there are tons and tons of financial books out there that I think would benefit anyone unfamiliar with how money works. To me, these are just four of the books I recommend as building blocks for your financial future. One book that I have not read yet and that I’ve heard many people talk about and reference is The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason. This book is definitely on my list and I can’t wait to read it soon.

Remember, invest in yourself by educating yourself in things you’re not an expert at. I mean, let’s be honest. Who taught you about finances, your parents or experts in the field? Exactly. I think it’s time to start learning from the experts from here on out.

Disclaimer: I started this blog as more of a therapeutic journal to document and share my life with others who are interested in listening. My blog posts will solely be based on my thoughts, opinions, and experiences as I work on my own path towards Mental Wealth. As I acquire new information along the way, my stance may change to reflect the new things I’ve learned. I, too, am a work in progress so please be patient, be kind, and bear with me. Thank you. - CM
